Immigrating to New Zealand

Immigration law is complex and rather confusing because it changes from time to time.

Immigrating to New Zealand can be a daunting process. It is not just filling out an application form. Very often it involves complicated issues where applicants need to have a reasonably good understanding of current immigration law. In addition, there are immigration policies that work hand in hand. To assist clients in lodging their applications, legal practitioners and qualified immigration advisers must be able to keep abreast of the up-to-date immigration laws and policies.

With the introduction of the Immigration Advisers Licensing Act 2007, all New Zealand immigration advisers are subject to a licensing regime. The Act, however, grants an exemption to lawyers and other personnel including those who work for the Citizens Advice Bureaus and Community Law Centres if they offer advice on immigration matters. For more information on the exempt category under the Act, please click here.

Lawyers are regulated by the Rules of Professional Conduct of the New Zealand Law Society. All funds received for the purpose of legal services are held in the trust account of the firm.
